Scanning through this Province “Sound off” thread is sort of useful for seeing how other people think about the aims of transportation policy.  Here’s one comment about the possibility of pricing roads:

Well, if tolls. . . come in, say goodbye to all shoppers from the lower mainland crossing the river.  I know I would not pay to spend my money in Vancouver/Burnaby/Coquitlam and I am sure I am not alone.

Of course, this is exactly the right response to have.  If driving gets more expensive, you should start choosing your trips more carefully, choosing shorter trips, and taking fewer trips by car.  The funny thing is, the author of this comment obviously thinks that would be a bad thing.  But I think it’s the whole point.
